Fishing Canadian Atlantic Lobster since the 1950's
Dream Boat Fisheries Inc. was formed in 2016 by Laurie Pendleton and Clinton Pendleton (son to Laurie). Prior to forming this company, Allison Pendleton (father to Laurie) started fishing when he was 14 years old with Payson Green (father in law to Allison). Payson transferred/sold his lobster license to Allison and years after, Allison (age 84 as of 2021) transferred this same license over to Laurie, whom both continue to fish this license to this day.
Clinton started fishing with Allison and Laurie in 2010 after leaving his previous job with Atlantic Towing Ltd. (JDI Transportation). With the three of them being supported under this one license, and about the same time lobster prices dropped to a record low of $3.50 per pound (wharf price), they had to start selling some of their own catch to smaller wholesalers and retailers who weren’t getting there share of quality, good prices, and good services from their old suppliers, that we were able, and continue to provide.
They then began pursuing foreign markets where they could make up for any loss in revenue during these difficult years. With the one license they have been fishing, they have been able to sustain themselves, improve their customers business’ with getting high valued hard-shelled lobster, supporting casual and full-time workers who helped and continue to help them along the way, and supporting local vendors with various projects. From catching their own lobster, storing lobster in their ocean-based live lobster holding facility, building their Federally licensed floating processing facility, building their Federally licensed land-based facility, buying other fishermen’s catch, and supplying fishermen with bait, they are not only improving their own business, they are improving everyone else’s who supply them with their services, and wild caught seafood.
Committed to Maintaining Sustainability in the Industry
Sustainability
The Homarus Americanus fishing industry is credited with one of North America’s most sustainable industries due to current policies implemented by the United States and Canada such as the owner operator and fleet separation policies. The enforcement of such policies has been conducted by the fishermen themselves, our many non for profit associations, and the Federal Government (Department of Fisheries and Oceans). Policies and non for profit associations have prevented the overfishing of this precious resource by preventing lobster licenses from being purchased by any owner with his boots not onboard the vessel and ensuring that these licenses stay in the smaller communities for the independent fishermen who live there. Current respected fishing practices by the independent fishermen have been responsible for maintaining the sustainability of the industry. Fishing practices such as a minimum allowable size, release of spawned (female with eggs) lobster, trap limit, and the closure of lobster areas during the summer months to allow lobster to molt/spawn have contributed to allow the replenishment of our bays with the highest quality of hard-shelled lobster for our communities on the east coast of Canada season after season.

With initiatives from our company, we will be able to realistically provide knowledge to the customer of where and when the lobster was caught. It has been identified that there are too many risks with a lobster being handled too many times by too many people. With our process of lobster getting to the customer, it eliminates any risk of inventory being mismanaged and increase the credibility of the independent fishermen’s ability to recognize that there is more to quality and customer focus than just volume.
